Overview of WinContig
WinContig is a very powerful and easy-to-use stand-alone defragmentation tool for Windows. Its purpose is to quickly defragment individual files without the need to defragment the entire disk.
File fragmentation causes the hard disk to do extra work, reducing the performance of the system and slowing down the process of reading and writing data. WinContig consolidates fragmented files by using kernel-mode interface library functions developed by Microsoft, so performing defragmentation process is safe and there is no risk of losing data when a file is moved, even in the event of a power loss.
WinContig supports defragmentation of files stored in hard disk drives (HDD) and solid state drives (SSD).
Most defragmentation tools perform a general defragmentation of entire partitions. In a real-life scenario, you often want to defragment a single file or directory. For example, this could be to improve the loading speed of a program file or reduce the loading time of a disk-intensive application, such as a game. To achieve the best possible performance, you can move files to the faster area of your drive and place your rarely used data onto the slower area of your drive.
WinContig has been specifically designed to meet the needs of users who focus mainly on files and folders rather than an entire disk.
Its ability to filter files by several criteria combined with its ability to be controlled via command-line switches, make WinContig the perfect tool for defragmenting frequently used files that are continuously becoming fragmented. WinContig also allows you to analyze and/or defragment files and folders directly from the context menu of File Explorer.
