Windows shell integration

WinContig allows you to analyze and defragment files and folders by right-clicking on them in File Explorer and selecting the required command from the context menu. To do this, you have to install the shell extension of WinContig.

By design, the shell extension of WinContig is not automatically installed. For information on how to install the shell extension of WinContig, click here.

Once the shell extension of WinContig is installed, you can configure its options in the settings of WinContig.

Depending on the options specified in the Settings dialog, the shell extension of WinContig let you do the following in File Explorer:

  • Analyze the level of fragmentation of files and folders.
  • Defragment files and folders.

Processing the items

To process the items in File Explorer, perform the following steps:


  1. Select the files and folders that you want to process in File Explorer.
  2. Click the right mouse button on one of the selected items, and then select Analyze with WinContig to analyze the items, or select Defragment with WinContig to defragment the items.
